President Trump’s televised speech from the Oval Office on Tuesday has caused quite the stir, especially amidst the government shutdown.
During the speech, Trump demanded a whopping $5.7 billion for his border wall.
According to the president, if he gets the funding, he will end the government shut down, which began before Christmas and is nearing three full weeks.
Trump attempted to rally the masses by proclaiming:
“How much more American blood must we shed before Congress does its job? For those who refuse to compromise in the name of job security, I would ask, imagine if it were your child, your husband or your wife whose life was so cruelly shattered and totally broken. To every member of Congress, pass a bill that ends this crisis.”
After his nearly 10-minute speech about the proposed wall separating Mexico from the U.S.’s southern border, jokes about Trump’s wall obsession ensued.
Perhaps the best of these jokes was the New York Daily News’ Tuesday evening Tweet: the cover of their Wednesday issue.
Wall or nothing. https://t.co/v15Ve3lVEx

The magazine’s Christmas edition also put Trump on blast.
It could be head wasn't screwed on just right. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight. But we think that the most likely reason of all may have been that his heart was two sizes too small. https://t.co/Vf44qMAj8m

The government shutdown is currently the second longest in the country’s history. If it continues until Saturday, it will become the nation’s longest.
