College Hurdler Goes ‘Full Superman’ In Epic Dive Over The Finish Line—And, Ouch

Infinite Tucker is a hurdler from Texas A&M University.

There are a few things you need to know about Infinite:

  1. He’s got easily the coolest name ever (if none of our Aussie friends name an all-you-can-eat buffet after him, we’re going to be disappointed.)
  2. He’s an incredibly talented athlete.
  3. The dude really, really loves his mother.

This past Saturday, Infinite made an epic leap to victory at the Southeastern Conference championships. He was decently neck and neck with teammate Robert Grant. Just before the finish line, Infinite seemed to have a slight lead – along with a mild case of the speed wobbles.

Imagine running so fast you get speed wobbles. (Personally, I can barely imagine running at all. Let’s just say coordination isn’t my strong suit.)

He was just about to cross the finish line, a point at which many runners lean in. He opted for a bit of a different, and altogether more superhero-esque tactic and dove for it. Infinite hit the floor with a faceplant so hard that other racers came to check on him to make sure he was okay. He’s fine, by the way.

Infinite Tucker won the race — and the internet.

If you watch the video closely, he appears to start losing a bit of control just before the dive — so it’s possible he knew he was going to tumble and opted to just try to use that momentum the best way he could.

If you ask Infinite, though, he’ll tell you there was something else going through his mind at the time: his mom.

“I closed my eyes over hurdle 10. I opened it, saw my ma at the finish, and I jumped…”

Twitter was super impressed with the dive. You know what that means — endless internet jokes!

Now that we’ve all had a good laugh, let’s check back in on the people commenting on how painful it looked — and the methods behind the madness.

Interestingly, quite a few people pointed out that there’s a fair bit of hypocrisy going on here. Bahamian female runner Shaunae Miller-Uibo pulled a similar move to take gold in her event at the Olympics — and people were outraged. Many called for her medal to be stripped from her.

People are praising Infinite for showing heart and giving his all, but Shaunae was labeled a cheater with no heart and no sense of honor for the game. That’s something to think about.

Either way, Infinite proved that he’s absolutely willing to leave everything he’s got on the track — even a bit of skin. We hope the road rash wasn’t too bad!
