The Memes Of Beto O’Rourke And Cory Booker Breaking Out Their Spanish Skills At The Debate Are En Fuego

And so it begins.

Last night in Miami, the first half of the Democratic candidates for President faced off in the very first debate of the 2020 election.

And it was good!

Constructive, mostly amicable, full of ideas none of which involved imprisoning four-year-olds without access to even a toothbrush, which incidentally even the Taliban issues to its hostages. So that’s cool.

But of course, it wouldn’t be a debate without a memeable moment!

And boy howdy, did Beto O’Rourke deliver. Right at the top, in MINUTE FOUR.

Asked about his tax plans, Beto, seemingly apropos of nothing, just began speaking in Spanish…

And people on Twitter were like “LOLWAT.”

Now to be fair, the debate was in part produced by Telemundo, so there were of course a lot of Spanish-speaking viewers.

But… it came out of nowhere and it caught pretty much everyone off guard—including, hilariously, Senators Elizabeth Warren and especially Cory Booker, who seemed to be in full-tilt disbelief…

For the non-Spanish speaker, his answer was:

“We need to include every person in this economy’s success. But if we want to do that, we need to include every person in our democracy. Every voter needs representation and we need to listen to every voice.”

But then Cory Booker broke out HIS Spanish, and suddenly his hilarious reaction took on a whole different flavor!

Naturally, the memes began rolling in, and they were gold!
Some couldn’t help but empathize with Cory…

While others were reminded of that one guy we all went to college with…

Or those other moments in your life where you’re like “omg STAHP.”

While others were just tickled by Cory Booker’s reaction!

And some couldn’t help but be reminded of a certain classic movie scene…

And the moment had at least one of tonight’s debate candidates SHOOK:

Anyway, if nothing else, the moment clarified just who exactly won this debate:
